MAHER ARAR

The case of Maher Arar -- a dual Canadian - Syrian citizen deported by the U.S. to Syria, over the protests of Canadian officials -- has barely made a scratch in the U.S. media landscape, but his return to Canada on Monday after a year in a Syrian jail put him in headlines north of the border. U.S. officials accused Arar of having links to al-Qaeda and then sent him to Syria even though Canadian officials claim that extradition rules should have sent him to Canada.
