TUCKER, THIS BIRD'S FOR YOU

Busy today, but I'm trying to think about how to raise the tone (or at least not lower it) while still expressing my frustrations. Here's what I've come up with:

Tucker, for attempting to rewrite the shameful story of vote suppression in Florida in 2000, this bird's for you.

picture of a bird, but not THE bird, because I'm trying to raise the tone

Brett, your post is cute and quite understandable but I wish to take issue with this:

"I'm trying to think about how to raise the tone (or at least not lower it)"

Certainly, I dont mean to lecture anyone on style, but my beef is with the general notion you seem to advocate: that we, the left and left-center, may better influence the country if we engage the right with highminded civility. Then, they must reciprocate or risk appearing cruel and within this model of debate, presumably our side gains strength.

Is this a fair assesment of your intention? If so I should like to critique it, if I have your okay to do so.

For a hint of where I'm coming from, see this Josh Marshall post.

I admire your blog but then you already know that.

Thanks for the comment. Ultimately, I'm not advocating a general rule of style. I don't care if other people don't attempt to "elevate the tone," and in fact I think that it's necessary for other people not to do so. Just not me, right now at least. . .
