Assignment: one page research summary, due in class on Wednesday, September
17
Your one page research summary should be a description of your research up
to this point, and should contain the following items:
- Your research topic and your research question. Reread Booth, 37 - 55. The topic should be appropriately narrow, and your question should be
appropriately interesting for your audience (i.e., the class).
- You should also give me a list of the sources that you’ve used so
far and that you plan to use for the paper. Make some attempt to evaluate
the sources, i.e., if you’re using material from the FCC web site, make
sure you indicate your sense of where the material fits in the debate - is
it Michael Powell's defense of the rule changes, or Adelstein's criticisms,
or something else? Look ahead in Booth on evaluating sources, 76 - 78. One
common error: 'New York Times' is not a source. Particular articles published
in the paper are, however, but make sure (for example) that you know the difference
between an editorial and a news article.
NOTE: We will have an in-class library session with Karen Shockey on Wednesday,
9/24.
